Consultant/s required: Research on savings groups and educational…

Organization: Plan UK Closing date: 05 Feb 2013 There is growing interest within Plan International in how to draw on the success of savings groups (also known as Village Savings and Loans Associations) to support Plan’s education work, particularly in terms of breaking the financial barriers to girls’ enrolment, attendance and completion. While there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence linking savings group participation to enhanced investment in education, more detailed and robust evidence is often lacking, and the exact links to educational outcomes often not explored in detail. This research is intended to strengthen this evidence base, and build our understanding about the extent to which savings groups are an effective means of breaking down the financial barriers to education. It will help move Plan towards making assessments over the relative value-for-money of breaking down the financial barriers to education via savings groups compared to other approaches such as scholarships.
